Millington, Tennessee is a "military town" and is considered low cost. Although there is no state personal income tax the state sales tax rate in Tennessee is 7.000%. With local taxes, the total sales tax rate is between 8.500% and 9.750%. Food in Tennessee is taxed at 5.000% (plus any local taxes). Millington lies 21 miles north of downtown Memphis. Naval Support Activity (NSA) Mid-South was first commissioned as a Naval Reserve Air Base (NRAB) on September 15, 1942, and was used to train pilots and ground crews for World War I. There have been many name changes since that time. In October 1998, the base became the home to NSA Mid-South to more closely identify the base's mission requirements and to reflect the Navy's approach to regionalization. NSA Mid-South has over 8,000 enlisted and officer personnel, civilians, and full-time contract personnel who provide all essential logistic and operational support services to the commands and activities on board. Considered by resident activities as the landlord of Navy Mid-South, the Naval Support Activity Mid-South performs the many tasks necessary for the proper functioning of a self-contained city.

For change of address for incoming military personnel contact your receiving command (Admin Dept) and inform them that you will be forwarding your mail and will pick it up upon your check-in. Though this is only a temporary measure, you will be responsible for establishing a permanent change of address through the US Post Office as part of your check-in procedures.
To request a sponsor contact your receiving command. Generally, the sponsor will meet you at the airport if previously arranged. All check-in procedures must be conducted in the Uniform of the Day. If you arrive during normal work hours, report to PSD (BLDG. 456 2nd FL.), call 901-874-5868 or 901-874-6285. If you arrive after normal working hours, call the CDO at 901-282-0338, report to Security (BLDG. 237) to obtain reporting endorsements. You may then report to your new command the following workday.
It is imperative to make reservations in advance through the BQ Programs by calling 901-874-5724. If you wish to spend the night at the Navy Lodge, please call 901-872-0121. During certain annual events held in Memphis, many hotels and motels will be booked. The events are Memphis in May, Elvis week in August, and the Liberty Bowl in December. ALL rooms at the Navy Lodge are pet friendly.
The Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) Loaner Locker provides items such as cookware, dinnerware, folding mattresses, irons and ironing boards for temporary use by newly arriving personnel who are awaiting household goods shipment. Call 901-874-7343 for further information.
Critical Installation Information
Important documents to hand carry when reporting to NAVSUPPACT Mid-South include original orders flight itinerary and receipts for lodging. Check into your command for further instructions.
