Lead agency for early intervention services
Alabama's Early Intervention System is a division of the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services.
Eligibility criteria for early intervention services
Children under the age of 3 may be eligible if they have:
- Developmental delay of at least 25 percent in one or more developmental areas
- A diagnosed condition that will likely result in a developmental delay

Alabama reported 2,993 infants and toddlers served for the 2012 child count.
Support service structure
Alabama's Early Intervention System has seven district offices that coordinate local early intervention services. Locations and contact information are available at district offices.

Families may contact the Alabama Early Intervention Service Child Find office at 800-543-3098.
Services for at-risk children
Local service teams will provide information on available resources to families with children who are not eligible for early intervention services. Families may also contact the parent training and information center listed below.
Family cost participation
Families are not required to pay for services. Public or private insurance may be accessed under certain conditions.

The Alabama Parent Education Center is Alabama's parent training and information center.
