Lead agency for early intervention services

The Arizona Early Intervention Program is located within the Arizona Department of Economic Security.

Eligibility criteria for early intervention services

Children under the age of 3 may be eligible if they have:

  • Developmental delay of more than 50 percent for their chronological age in one or more developmental areas
  • Established condition with a high probability of resulting in a developmental delay

Arizona reported 5,100 infants and toddlers for the 2012 child count.

Support service structure

The Arizona Early Intervention Program staff monitors and support the services provided by a network of local providers. The staff uses a primary service provider model with coaching provided by other team members. More information is available at team-based model.

Initial family contact

The local Arizona Early Intervention Program offices serve as the initial point of contact for families. Contact information is available at referral information.

Services for at-risk children

Local service teams will provide information on available resources to families with children who are not eligible for early intervention services. Families may also contact the parent training and information center listed below or First Things First, a statewide program supporting children from birth through age 5.

Family cost participation

Families meeting certain income guidelines may be asked to pay a fee for some services. Public and private insurance may be accessed under certain conditions. More information is available at family cost participation.
